Isuzu Motors India has commenced the bookings for its lifestyle pick-up vehicle, the D-MAX V-Cross. Priced at INR 12.49 lakhs, it is being manufactured at the automaker’s newly inaugurated facility at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh and the deliveries will begin from July 2016 onwards.
Offering the best-in-segment fuel efficiency, the V-Cross is powered by the same 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine as the regular D-Max. While the regular variant is available in both 78PS/136PS power tunes, the V-Cross can only be bought in the more powerful guise. Transmitting power to all four wheels is a slick 5-speed manual gearbox.
“The D-MAX V-Cross is designed to meet the aspirations of India’s adventure seekers. With a combination of rugged off-roading capability and passenger car-like comforts, the V-Cross caters to the personal vehicle buyer who seeks adventure, style and utility,” said Isuzu in a statement. “The V-Cross' chassis is based on Isuzu Gravity Response Intelligent Platform (iGRIP) technology that gives it stability even at high speeds and sharp curves.”
Despite having capable products such as the Tata Xenon and the Mahindra Scorpio Getaway, the pick-up segment has always witnessed lukewarm response from Indian buyers. Let’s see if the V-Cross can change the approach towards pick-ups in the country as well as the fortune of the lifestyle pick-up segment.
