Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is gearing up for the launch of its globally revered premium SUV brand ‘Jeep’ in India. In a bid to do the same, the automaker has imported Its compact SUV, ‘Renegade’ in the country. The import has been carried out to assist the company in its research and development operations. Jeep will commence its operations in India in February next year, with the launch of its Cherokee SUVs, which will be followed by the launch of Wrangler.
Reports claim that a total of four Renegade compact SUV models have been imported straight from USA. Two of these models feature a 4X2 configuration, while the other two come with a 4X4 drive type. The SUVs were imported to Mumbai and might be on their way to Tata motors and Fiat’s co-owned Ranjangaon plant. Zauba’s import data reflects that each of these models cost around Rs. 17.49 lacs. This particular move by the company helps us entertain the possibility of Jeep Renegade making its way to India, in addition to the launch of Cherokee and Wrangler SUVs. Renegade might come to India as a CKD and will probably be assembled in India, which will help it reduce production cost to compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and other compact SUVs.
