Fiat-Chrysler has finally brings back its iconic American brand Jeep in the Indian car market. The company has unveiled its two most popular models the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler at the ongoing 2014 Indian Auto Expo. Out of these two, Wrangler is an off-roader which directly targets the off-roading enthusiasts across the nation. Right from the exterior to the interiors, the Wrangler is a pure off-roader.
Jeep Wrangler styling reflects the original Jeep and its retro appeal is clearly evident. The front fascia of the off-roader features a seven hole slatted grille, round headlights, indicators and fog lamps. The bumpers have matte black paint finish and the side indicators are smartly positioned on the wheel arch. The side profile of the SUV looks rugged, thanks to the large wheels. The rear profile of the SUV appears simple and the spare wheel mounted on the door covered by a cloth with JEEP embossed on it. Its rear bumper sports reflector and the tail lights are small in size, while the stop lights are mounted above the spare wheel.
Inside the cabin, the Jeep Wrangler has good quality material and top-notch fit and finish. The front door features the door unlock/lock buttons. Its big mirrors suit the off-roading style, offering good visibility of vehicles behind. The front seat gets the height adjustable seat belts. The steering wheel and seats are manually adjustable and the car's larger wheelbase turns into a good headroom and legroom for front and rear passengers. The centre console has a power window switches and there are plenty of storage spaces for bottles, magazines and phones. It also comes equipped with cigarette lighter, mirror adjustment, headlamp leveller, hazard switch and traction control. The steering wheel features a series of buttons for cruise control and menu buttons to work with multi-information display. The display shows tyre pressure, distance to empty, mileage, hill assist, door opening warning and few others. Like the Grand Cherokee, the controls for audio are placed behind the steering wheel.
Jeep Wrangler measures 4583mm x 1877mm x 1829mm (length x width x height) and has a wheelbase of 2947mm, which ultimately turns into an extra legroom space to its passengers. The Jeep Wrangler is propelled by the 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine that churns out a maximum power output of 197bhp and 460Nm of top torque. Power is transmitted to a five-speed automatic gearbox, which transmits power to all-4 wheels.
