Maruti is all set to launch the Ciaz hybrid post Independence Day. Although a date has not yet been confirmed, reports say that the car will be launched within a week after 15 Aug. The hybrid version is most likely to replace the current diesel variant as no reports suggest any changes to the petrol variant. The hybrid car will use the same 1.3-litre Multijet engine but this time, it will be coupled with the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology. It uses a lithium-ion battery which gets charged by regenerative braking. It will provide extra torque to the engine and will also power a idle start-stop feature. As a result, Ciaz is expected to deliver a better fuel economy of 28-30 kmpl than the old 26 kmpl.
The new car will also feature some cosmetic changes which are expected to carry on to the petrol variant as well. The new hybrid variant is most likely to be sold out of the new exclusive Nexa showrooms which currently showcase only the recently launched S Cross. Maruti dealers have been offering a discount of Rs 25,000 on the Ciaz which may be a move to clear out the old stock in anticipation of the new model. The SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology was showcased by Maruti at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show explaining how the lithium-ion batteries are charged by regenerative braking and how that charge provides the extra torque. Reports suggest that the new hybrid Ciaz will be Rs 75,000 to 1.2 lac costlier than the current car depending on the variant.
