McLaren has previewed the first official image of P1 GTR, the track-exclusive version of its P1 hybrid hypercar. The car will make its debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 15, and will go into production in June next year, when the 375th and final example of the road-going car will be built.
The rendering image shows a very aggressive rear end of the GTR, featuring a huge fixed wing and an equally massive diffuser. Unlike the production version, the GTR's exhaust consist of two big round pipes mounted centrally under the rear wing. The side profile of the hypercar gets larger intakes and inlets, designed for maximum aerodynamics and cooling, as-well-as the slick racing tires. As for the design of the front end, we will have to wait for an official frontal image, till then we expect an equally extreme fascia.
“Conceived in response to requests from buyers of the road legal McLaren P1 for a track focused edition of their car, and available for purchase only to this group as a fully comprehensive programme to include driving events, training and vehicle support, the McLaren P1 GTR will go into production in June 2015 when the 375th and final example of the road car has been completed - two decades on from the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans win by the legendary McLaren F1 GTR,” the manufacturer stated.
While the standard P1, churns out a combined output of 903 bhp from its 727 bhp-3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 and 176 bhp electric motor, the track-focused GTR, is rated at 986 bhp. Additionally, the kerb-weight of the GTR is also expected to be less than the production version's 1,400 kgs.
The buyers of this track-focuded machine will become part of the GTR programme and will get consultations with McLaren’s design director Frank Stephenson. Plus will be given chances to be trained by the Formula 1 team’s fitness coaches.
