Mercedes Benz India is set to launch its first compact SUV crossover – Mercedes Benz GLA tomorrow. The crossover-SUV will be available with both petrol and diesel engines; prices are expected to be in the vicinity of Rs 30 lakh. GLA will be rivaling with BMW 1 Series and Audi Q3. Based on the MB's MFA architectures, GLA features a proper crossover traits with low slung roof and high riding drive.
Adding more on the GLA, it belongs to A, B and CLA Class family and indeed GLA reminds you that both inside-out. At the outset, GLA features a dual-slat grille with MB's logo at the center. An A-CLA-Class-esque bi-xenon lamps on front and rear features a wrap-around unit. Both the bumpers look chunk and feature matte aluminum finish to give GLA a distinctive character.
Speaking of the Interiors, dashboard is similar to that of A Class with subtle tweaks. Features include, panoramic sunroof, electronically adjustable driver and co-passenger's seat, a Harman Kardon music system, etc. On the safety front, GLA offers 7 airbags, ASR (Anti-Slip-Regulation), ABS, ESP, Hill Start Assist along with host of Merc Assist safety features.

Mechanically, GLA will be powered by both turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. The GLA 200 features a turbocharged petrol that pumps out 178.5bhp and 300Nm of max torque. The diesel on the other hand is a 2143cc turbo diesel that belts out 132.2bhp while the torque stands tall and equivalent to its petrol counterpart at 300Nm. Both the engines are mated to a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox. Mercedes Benz claims 17km/l certified fuel economy for GLA diesel which makes it most fuel efficient SUV among its rivals.
