Another addition to Mercedes' portfolio - with the German auto giant debuting the GLE Coupe in India. Available only in the 450AMG guise, the mammoth carries a sticker price of Rs. 86.4 lacs (Ex-showroom, Mumbai).

The Coupe is based on the updated GLE (ML - Class), which was launched late 2015. Largely a crossover on steroids, the GLE Coupe follows a BMW X6-ish approach to styling. The large proportions scream SUV, whereas the sloping roofline and rising belt lines are classic Coupe traits. Styling elements are borrowed from its SUV sibling, with the large headlamps and grille. We particularly like the lunacy that the boffins at AMG bring to the design - be it the massive air intakes up front to the tiny AMG lettering on the side and not to mention, the gorgeous 21 inch wheels.

The interiors are a lift from the standard GLE too. That means, you still get the new COMAND system an all the other bells and whistles you'd expect from a vehicle that costs as much. Given its sporty credentials, the seats are slightly different (read: better contoured) and are wrapped in perforated nappa leather upholstery.

The GLE450 is not a full blown AMG and gets a turbocharged 3.0 litre V6 instead of a fire breathing V8. Power output stands at 362 bhp and gets a healthy 520 Nm of torque to boot.  The motor is mated to Mercedes' (and not AMGs) new G-tronic 9-speed automatic transmission. It also gets the 4MATIC tech, which is the Merc lingo for All Wheel Drive. The driver gets an option to adjust suspension and engine characteristics to set up the GLE450. The modes, like any other Mercedes of the recent past are: Comfort, Sport and Sport+.

The Coupe goes head to head against the BMW X640d and the Porsche Cayenne.
