Hyundai, being second most popular carmaker, stays always on toes and gives a constant fight to the top-most carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI). And, in recent times MSI has been facing fierce competition from the South Korean brand. Since the time Hyundai entered in the Indian car market, it showed exceptional growth. The subcontinent journey for Hyundai began way back in 1996 but it was in the year 1998 that it rolled out its most celebrated car- Santro, that ultimately made the brand reach the second position in the list of top carmakers in India.
Well, as its quite visible, the constant rising levels of competition is making every automaker stay alert and keep an eye on the moves of its rival brand. There's always a counter and strategically made plan ready with the brands to combat the fierce competition rising from the other end. We introduced you with several new and refreshed products being introduced from the stable of Maruti. Walking on the same lines, Hyundai too has plans to bring in new vehciles in next two years. Apart from MSI, there are potentially bound brands like, Honda and Ford, too joining the competition with their respective contenders. Despite, all the rivalry going in the auto industry, Hyundai has grabbed the position of biggest exporter in passenger vehicle segment.
With the recent launch of Hyundai Xcent in the compact sedan segment, the company marks its presence in the most popular segment of cars as well. However, the SUV and MPV segment hasn't observed any vehicle from this particular brand in recent times. But this time around we can expect two new vehicles arriving in the two aforementioned segments. Undoubtedly, this will be a smart move by the company in order to increase its market share. Lets discuss the new Hyundai vehicles arriving in the coming future. There are four new vehicles on Hyundai's cards- New generation Hyundai i20, 2015 Hyundai Sonata, compact SUV and an MPV.
New generation Hyundai i20
The South Korean carmaker is all set to bring the next generation model of its flagship hatchback, i20 in India. The car has done remarkable business for the company in the past, and still continues to do so. The new i20 has been spotted many times doing test runs on Indian roads and we could make out some of the exterior upgrades looking at the car. Though camouflaged, the car reveals the design to certain extent and seems to be based on new Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy which will make the car appear more sporty and energetic. As per the media reports, the new Hyundai i20 will get extensively modified interiors and can be expected with high level of equipment. Mechanically, the hatch will remain unchanged and will show up with same engine options- 1.4-litre diesel and 1.2-litre petrol engine. As far as launch is concerned, we can expect the car to arrive by this festive season.
Hyundai compact SUV
More From This Section
As such there's no Hyundai product existing in the compact SUV segment, and looking at the constantly increasing popularity of these cars, Hyundai too plans to bring on its compact SUV. The test runs are going on with the prototype and we can expect the company to launch the same new compact SUV in India, may be by this festive season or by the end of this year. The company is showcasing the ix25 in the Beijing Motor Show in April, which is based on i20 platform. This could be the same product which the company targets for Indian market as well. However, nothing has been confirmed over this. The new compact SUV will come with the same engine options that are available with Verna and i20 hatchback. While, the design cues could be derived from its bigger version SUV, Hyundai SantaFe.
Hyundai MPV
The company is side-by-side investing on developing a compact MPV as well which is likely to be pitched against Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Chevrolet Enjoy and yet-to-arrive Honda Mobilio. The new Hyundai MPV is believed to be based on Grand i10 hatchback, and as far as engine specs are concerned, the car is expected to share the same of Hyundai i20 hatchback. Though, it will come with both diesel and petrol engine options. We can expect the launch of the MPV by mid 2015.
Hyundai Sonata
The 2015 Hyundai Sonata has been revealed in Korea. Its anticipatory that the company might launch the sedan in India as well. However, any information with respect to Indian market cannot confirmed as of now.
