More news from Paris Motor Show, as the German manufacturer Volkswagen has announced that it will host the world premiere of Passat GTE- First Passat with a plug-in hybrid drive system. The automaker has already commenced the sales of eighth generation Passat in Europe but with the introduction of plug-in hybrid, the automaker looks to tap the sales of hybrid market too. The Passat GTE will be launched in the second half of next year in both saloon and estate models.
To be offered in both saloon and estate model, the all new Passat GTE is a zero-emission and long-distance vehicle and in the GTE mode, the car gives a sporty feel too. In this Plug-in hybrid vehicle, the power is developed by the Turbocharged direct Injection petrol engine (TSI) coupled with an electric motor. In an all-electric mode, the GTE can cover the distance of 31 miles (49.8 kms) with zero emissions.
The 1.4-litre TSI engine churns maximum power of 156 PS at 5,000 rpm while the electric motor produces 15 PS. The maximum torque of the plug-in hybrid drive system is 400 Nm. With a full 500-litre fuel tank and fully charged battery, the car can cover 997kms (620 miles).

The Passat GTE, is equipped with especially developed six-gear dual clutch gearbox for the hybrid drive. The car is capable to accelerate 0 to 100kmph in mere 8.0 seconds and achieves a top speed of more than 218.8kmph (136 mph) while in E-mode, the top speed is 128kmph (80 mph).
Inside the cabin, the new Passat GTE will embrace a high resolution 6.5-inch display of the standard "Composition Media" infotainment system.
