While most were only guessing the launch dates and months for Tata Nano diesel in India, Tata Motors' MD Karly Slym revealed the company's plans of introducing it by the next financial year, which means in 2014. However, he didn't specify the exact time when the company is planning to roll out the Nano diesel, he told Reuters yesterday that "The diesel Nano is still ahead, but not launched yet... This financial year".
The home-grown auto major is also planning to roll out the CNG version of Nano, which we believe will happen sometime during the festive season. Now with a diesel engine under the hood, World's cheapest car will also become the most fuel efficient four-wheeler ever produced in India. The engine to be fitted in the car will most likely be a 1.0-litre diesel motor along with a whole new exhaust management.
There is also not any official confirmation on the exact power specs or the mileage figures of the car, we are expecting it to be returning as much fuel economy as 35kmpl. And if it is priced around Rs 2.5-3 lakh, it will also become the cheapest diesel car ever produced.
Tata Motors has already unveiled several cars which are to hit the Indian shores in next one year, a diesel powered version of its cheapest offering can prove to be a game changer for the company. And none can deny the kind of response Nano initially received when launched in 2009.

So, first a diesel engine capable of returning 35kmpl of mileage, and then an affordable price tag surely goes in favour of Nano at a time when rising fuel prices have hit the common man very hard.
