Ian Callum, Head of Design, Jaguar will be one happy person to see such a great response for the F-TYPE Coupe and one of our personal favourites, the Project 7 received at the Delhi Motor Show on being unveiled. Behind the happy face lies all the hard work went to design the gorgeous looking Jaguars from the XF to the F-TYPE. He also designed the C-X17 that is still in the concept stage and now, we await the next car from the Jaguar stable.

Q1) The F-TYPE Coupe is a lot more gorgeous than the Covertible. One design feature you like about it over the convertible?
Ans) Yes, the coupes are always more attractive than the convertible. That has been the case for the E-TYPE and even for the Aston Martin DB9. The design is a lot more proportionate and it is a lot more stylish too. The same goes with the Jaguar F-TYPE too. It is a lot more attractive and frankly speaking I was looking forward at designing this car and I’m glad got to design something like this.

Q2) How did the Project 7 happen?
Ans) Oh well! That really came by accident. One of my designers, Cesar— an Italian— who was randomly sketching and came up with this design, we really liked it and the decision was made to build one of these. We had a small budget and we used some PR budget to make it a PR exercise. It was a lot more expensive than what we thought. A lot of enthusiasts can relate to it as it has the styling like the old racing cars. We began showcasing it with Goodwood Festival of Speed then Pebble Beach. Now we have got it here in India. Before you ask anything we don’t know what we will do next.

Q3) The C-X17 was a diverse product from Jaguar, even though a concept. Now, what next is exciting after this?
Ans) The next big project is the small car, it is 3 Series size car. It is smaller than XF and that something we are looking forward to it. Possibly, you might be able to see it before 2015. I will like to do some smaller cars in the future.

Q4) Describe Delhi Motor Show?
Ans) I haven’t seen the much show yet. The infrastructure could have been better, but it feels great to be here. As a part of the parent company, and we don’t get to see Tata Motors stall with us, except at Geneva. So, yes like it this way. The Geneva Motor Show is the only other place. Indians are also warm about the fact that it is an Indian-company owned brand and the atmosphere is exciting.
