It seems like carmakers are going the Volkswagen path in which they will launch a crossover version of their hatchback models. We reported earlier that Fiat is planning to launch the Punto Adventure, which will be the crossover version of its flagship hatchback Punto. Like the Cross Polo, Toyota India is also considering the Etios Cross, based on the Liva hatchback. This model has already been unveiled in Brazil and it will be showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo.
To distinguish the Etios Cross from the hatch, it gets a specific new set of 15-inches 10-spoke alloy wheels, protectors with black and silver plastic, larger bars on the roof, rear spoiler, an integrated bumper guard at front and a new fog lamp housing. Inside the cabin, it now features the adjustable headrests, black seat fabric and chrome inserts on the dashboard.
The Etios Cross will be made available in both petrol and diesel guise. The vehicle is expected to carryover the same 1.4-litre D4D diesel engine producing 69PS and the 1.5-litre petrol engine that develops 90PS. The vehicle is expected to be priced around Rs. 8 lakh, and we believe that it will make its way to the showrooms by the end of this year.
