The Volkswagen Group handed over a record eight million vehicles to customers in the first ten-month of the on-going year. The German group sold over 8.24 million vehicles in a period from January to October, a good 5 percent more than 7.85 million vehicles during the same time last year. While particularly in October, 8,42,700 vehicles were retailed, 2.9 percent more than 8,18,900 units in October last year.
"So far this year the Volkswagen Group has outpaced the overall market. That is a pleasing development in light of the market situation in some regions which is at times still challenging. Our brands recorded further growth in Western Europe and Asia-Pacific in particular", said Christian KlinglerGroup, Board Member for Sales VW.
In the European market, group's brands delivered a total of 3.24 million vehicles to customers from January to October, of which 1.68 million units were handed over in Western Europe (excluding Germany). While in the home market of Germany, the group sold 1.02 million units. A total of 5,35,200 vehicles in Central and Eastern Europe, whereas 2,17,600 models were handed over to customers in Russia during the same period.
The Group sold 7,28,700 vehicles in the North American region in the period to October, of which 4,89,100 were handed over to customers in the United States. In the South American region during the same period, the group retailed 604,100 vehicles of which 470,700 were handed over to customers in Brazil.
The Group continued its good record in the Asia-Pacific region, where 3.33 million vehicles were handed over to customers in the period to October, of which 3.03 million units were delivered in China (including Hong Kong), the Group's largest single market.
