The trouble at Volkswagen seems to have echoed in India as well. After taking a massive blow on its reputation worldwide and loosing the no. 1 carmaker title, Volkswagen is likely to recall over 1 lakh cars in India. The move is likely to affect Polo hatchback, Polo Cross, Vento, Jetta and Passat sedan cars mostly. It comes at a time when the carmaker is already being probed by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), the apex body for the Indian automobile. “Since there is a complex combination of several brands, various models, different engine variants and gearboxes as well as different model years that need to be analysed, establishing detailed facts is taking a longer time,” the company said.

The german automaker has got entangled in a massive emission scandal, brought in light by an American University, which has seen a recall of over 11 million vehicles made by the company, all over the world. VW has allegedly tried to cheat the emission test conducted on vehicles before getting them on roads. Although the emission norms followed in India are comparatively lenient, the auto giant might still has to fix the engines or even replace a hardware in India like it is doing in Europe. India follows an almost identical homologation process when it comes to conducting emission tests.
