Volkswagen that sells its compact crossover, the Tiguan in many international markets, has finally made its entry to the Indian car market. Yes, the German carmaker has unveiled the Tiguan SUV at the ongoing 2014 Delhi Motor Show. This SUV will sit under the company's flagship SUV, Touraeg and will compete against the likes of Santa Fe, Chevy Captiva, Honda CR-V and Fortuner.
The Volkswagen Tiguan feature Bi-Xenon headlights with Adaptive front light system and LED technology, rear view camera, Panoramic power sunroof, an auxiliary audio jack, cruise control and a 60-40 split-folding rear seat. Additionally, the SUV gets the keyless ignition/entry, heated seats, leather seating and dual-zone automatic climate control.
On safety front, the SUV comes loaded with Anti-lock braking system (ABS), stability and traction control, side and head curtain airbags.
The Tiguan is based on the VW's popular Mk6 Golf platform (PQ35), which has been used by several Volkswagen Group cars including the Skodas. In India, the Tiguan share its powertrains with the Jetta saloon. The vehicle gets the 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine and the 2.0-litre TDI oil burner. Both the engines will be mated to a six-speed manual and six-speed DSG gearbox.
The Volkswagen Tiguan is expected to be priced around Rs. 20-22 lakh.
