Volkswagen has been aggressive with its Polo and Vento products and it has been busy diversifying them. But now the market trend is moving towards SUV, this is why most of the manufacturers are focusing towards introducing their compact SUVs. Skoda was amongst the first to get the Yeti— a compact SUV, but possibly the higher cost and less mature market meant not many bought it.
Now, as Skoda is gearing for a facelift, Volkswagen will also chip in the Tiguan as both share the same platform and powertrains. The Tiguan will be available with a 2.0-litre diesel engine and sources also claim that a 1.2-litre TSI could be in the works too.
This will help VW to have a lower starting price point, and they might even consider the 1.6-litre diesel or the 1.5-litre diesel the company has been working on.
