ABB India gains after commissioning world record voltage circuit breaker

ABB India rose 2.36% to Rs 1,152.75 at 14:15 IST on BSE after the company said it has designed, manufactured, installed and commissioned a 1,200-kilovolt circuit breaker, the highest AC voltage level in the world.

The announcement was made market hours on Tuesday, 2 December 2014.

Meanwhile, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 21.10 points or 0.07% at 28,465.11.

On BSE, so far 9,768 shares were traded in the counter as against average daily volume of 17,016 shares in the past one quarter.

The stock hit a high of Rs 1,156.35 and a low of Rs 1,126.15 so far during the day. The stock had hit a 52-week high of Rs 1,263.50 on 22 September 2014. The stock had hit a 52-week low of Rs 568.05 on 30 January 2014.

 

The stock had underperformed the market over the past one month till 2 December 2014, sliding 3.48% compared with the Sensex's 2.07% rise. The scrip had, however, outperformed the market in past one quarter, surging 6.44% as against Sensex's 5.27% rise.

The large-cap company has equity capital of Rs 42.38 crore. Face value per share is Rs 2.

ABB India said that it has designed, manufactured, installed and commissioned a 1,200-kilovolt (kV) circuit breaker the highest AC voltage level in the world. Once the 1200 kV ultrahigh-voltage switchgear is fully operational, it will have a switching capacity of 10,400 megawatts - a switch capable of turning 'ON' or 'OFF' the electricity generated by 10 large power plants or the combined average annual electrical load of Switzerland and Denmark, within milliseconds, the company said. The circuit breaker is deployed at the 1,200 kV national test station constructed by Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL), India's central transmission utility, at Bina in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, ABB India said in a statement.

ABB India's net profit rose 18.3% to Rs 44.98 crore on 3.3% growth in net sales to Rs 1821.38 crore in Q3 September 2014 over Q3 September 2013.
