Australian share market finished lower for the second straight session on Monday, 12 February 2018, shrugging off a positive lead from U.S. stocks on Friday, with shares of energy and financials being notable losers. The S&P/ASX 200 index slipped 17 points, or 0.3%, to 5820. Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 731 to 495 and 333 ended unchanged. The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 21.501.
