Australian stock market finished session virtually flat on Tuesday, 17 April 2018, as gains in shares of the materials, telecom and consumer sectors offset by losses in wealth manager AMP in the wake of fresh revelations from a judicial inquiry about misdeeds in the industry. Market early gains were also evaporated after the minutes of the last RBA meeting revealed that the next interest rate movement will likely be up. The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index added 0.2 of a point to 5,841.5 points and the broader All Ordinaries gained 1.3 points, or 0.02%, to 5,934.3 points. Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 581 to 558 and 406 ended unchanged. The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.19% to 12.540.
