Australian equity market finished session higher on Thursday, 31 August 2017, on broadbased gains led by financials and mining stocks as data showed a sharp rise in planned business investment. At the close, the S&P/ASX 200 index closed 0.8%, or 44.8 points, higher at 5714.5, while the broader All Ordinaries index closed up 0.7%, or 42.5 points, at 5776.3. Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 709 to 466 and 340 ended unchanged. The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 4.31% to 12.489.
