Australia stock market closed higher on last trading session of the month on Monday, 30 April 2018, on the back of better than expected China's official Purchasing Managers' Index data. However, market gain was limited as investors remained cautious ahead of a wave of trading updates due this week. The S&P/ASX 200 index rose 0.5% or 29.10 points to 5,982.70 at the close of trade. The broader All Ordinaries index was up 28.7 points, or 0.47%, at 6,071.6 points.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 680 to 557 and 395 ended unchanged. The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 4.06% to 12.512.
