Bharti Infratel gains on FTSE inclusion

Bharti Infratel made the announcement after market hours on Thursday, 3 January 2013.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was down 33.08 points, or 0.17%, to 19,731.70.

On BSE, 5.86 lakh shares were traded in the counter. The stock hit a high of Rs 210 and a low of Rs 203.10 so far during the day.

The large-cap company has an equity capital of Rs 1888.64 crore. Face value per share is Rs 10.

Bharti Infratel said its shares will be added to FTSE All-World Index (Large Cap) with a investability weighting of 9% and will also be added to FTSE All-Emerging Index.

 

FTSE, which is a part of the London Stock Exchange Group, is a world-leader in providing global index and analytical solutions. FTSE indices are used extensively by a range of investors such as consultants, asset owners, fund managers, investment banks, stock exchanges and brokers, Bharti Infratel said in a statement.

FTSE's flagship global benchmark, the FTSE All-World, is used by investors worldwide to structure and benchmark their international equity portfolios. The FTSE global equity universe covers over 7,400 securities in 47 different countries and captures 98% of the world's investable market capitalisation, the Bharti Infratel statement said.

Shares of Bharti Infratel debuted on the secondary market on 28 December 2012. On the day of listing, the stock opened at Rs 200, a discount of 9.09% to the initial public offer (IPO) price of Rs 220 per share. On that day, it settled at Rs 191.20 on BSE, a discount of 13.09% over the IPO price.

Bharti Infratel, the telecom tower arm of Bharti Airtel, had priced its IPO at Rs 220 per share. With a discount of Rs 10 per share, the IPO was priced at Rs 210 per share for retail investors. The IPO was subscribed 1.3 times. The issue closed on 14 December 2012. Bharti Airtel's post-issue shareholding in Bharti Infratel is 79.42%.

On a consolidated basis, Bharti Infratel reported a net profit of Rs 460.46 crore on net sales of Rs 4971.95 crore in six-months ended September 2012.

Bharti Infratel's main business is to acquire, build, own and operate towers and related infrastructure and to provide access of its towers to wireless telecommunications service providers on a shared basis under long-term contracts. The company has 34,220 own towers in 11 telecom circles and 42% equity interest in Indus, which has about 1,10,561 towers in 15 telecom circles. Thus, on a consolidated basis the company operated in 22 telecom circles, with economic interest in 80,656 towers, in India at end September 2012, making it one of the largest tower infrastructure providers in India.
