Broad market depicts strength

Even as the two key benchmark indices -- the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, and the 50-unit CNX Nifty -- were a tad lower in late trade, the broad market depicted strength.

The market breadth indicating the overall health of the market was strong, with more than two gainers for every loser on BSE. On BSE, 2,057 rose and 932 shares dropped. A total of 84 shares were unchanged.

At 14:58 IST, the Sensex was off 34.61 points or 0.14% at 24,823.98. The BSE Mid-Cap index was up 158.55 points or 1.82% at 8,863.61. The BSE Small-Cap index was up 165.61 points or 1.78% at 9,471.48.

 

IDBI Bank (up 15.65% at Rs 112.75), Mahindra Holidays & Resorts (up 11.65% at Rs 301.80), Suzlon Energy (up 9.85% at Rs 28.45), Max India (up 9.58% at Rs 327.20), Indiabulls Real Estate (up 9.19% at Rs 106.30), Vardhman Textiles (up 8.14% at Rs 442.35), PVR (up 7.82% at Rs 646.15) and JSW Energy (up 7.81% at Rs 80.10), were the top gainers from the BSE Mid-Cap index.

Marksans Pharma (up 20% at Rs 27), Nahar Spinning (up 19.97% at Rs 139.65), Welspun Corp (up 14.75% at Rs 98.80), Ingersoll-Rand (India) (up 13.9% at Rs 681.45), Trident (up 13.86% at Rs 18.90), Banco Products (up 13.69% at Rs 97.60), HEG (up 12.42% at Rs 278.25) and Foseco India (up 11.17% at Rs 649.25), were the top gainers from the BSE Small-Cap index.
