The Congress won three seats, the BJP two, and BJP-backed All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) one, as votes were counted on Thursday (2 March) for byelections held for six assembly constituencies in five states.

As a representative of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), Congress won in Maharashtra's Kasba Peth, which was with the BJP since 1995; it opened its account in the West Bengal assembly by winning the Sagardighi segment, and retained Tamil Nadu's Erode (East).

BJP, meanwhile, retained Maharashtra's Chinchwad, while in Arunachal Pradesh's Lumla, its candidate was elected unopposed. The All Jharkhand Students Union, on the other hand, bagged the Ramgarh constituency in Jharkhand.

Both Kasba Peth and Chinchwad polled on 26 February. In Erode (East), Lumla, Ramgarh and Sagardighi, votes were cast on the following day.

The byelections in five of these assembly seats were necessitated due to the passing away of the respective MLAs. The only exception was Ramgarh, where the sitting legislator lost her assembly membership after conviction in a case.
