The Mainland China equity market ended virtually flat on Friday, 18 August 2017, with investor optimism over strong corporate earnings and economic fundamentals offsetting some pressure to take profits from recent gains. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index ended 0.01% higher, or 0.29 points, at 3,268.72, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, dipped 0.37%, or 7.13 points, to 1,902.25.
