The Mainland China equity market ended softer on Friday, 22 December 2017, as weakness in banking and consumer stocks offset gains in the energy sector. At the close, the Shanghai Composite index was down 2.70 points or 0.08 percent at 3,297.36. The blue-chip CSI300 index was down 0.32 percent. The smaller Shenzhen index ended down 0.18 percent and the start-up board ChiNext Composite index was weaker by 0.58 percent.
