SIAM says auto industry downturn further deepens de-growth of all segments continues
As per the data reported by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), an apex national body representing all major vehicle & vehicular engine manufacturers in India, sales of commercial vehicles witnessed a downfall of 25.71% in July 2019 as compared to July 2018. Two-wheelers saw a decline in sales by 16.82% in July 2019 as compared to July 2018. Sales of van fell by 45.68% in July 2019 as compared to July 2018. Sales of utility vehicles also fell by 15.22% in July 2019 as compared to July 2018. A decline of 35.95% has been registered in the sales of passenger cars in July 2019 as compared to July 2018.Total of 2,508,860 vehicles, including passenger, commercial, three-wheelers, two-wheelers & quadricycle were produced in July 2019 as against 2,818,986 in July 2018, recording decline of 11%.
Total exports of commercial vehicles decreased by 32.87% and passenger vehicles dipped by 4.43% respectively in July 2019 as compared to July 2018.
Total exports of two-wheeler segment grew by 10.08% & three-wheeler segment exports dropped by 12.24% in July 2019 as compared to July 2018.
Production in April-July 2019
The industry produced a total 9,724,373 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers, two wheelers and quadricycle in April-July 2019 as against 10,883,730 in April-July 2018, registering a de-growth 10.65% over the same period last year.

Domestic sales in April-July 2019
The sale of passenger vehicles declined by 21.56% in April-July 2019 over the same period last year. Within the passenger vehicles, the sales for passenger cars, utility vehicle & vans declined by 26.45%, 7.22% and 30.97% respectively in April-July 2019 over the same period last year.
The overall commercial vehicles segment registered a decline of 13.57% in April-July 2019 as compared to the same period last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) declined by 21.63% and light commercial vehicles declined by 8.56% in April-July 2019 over the same period last year.
Three wheelers sales declined by 7.43% in April-July 2019 over the same period last year. Within the three wheelers, passenger carrier sales registered a de-growth of 8.02% and goods carrier declined by 4.82% in April-July 2019 over April-July 2018.
Two wheelers sales registered a de-growth of 12.93% in April-July 2019 over April-July 2018. Within the two wheelers segment, scooters, motorcycles and mopeds declined by 15.58%, 11.18% and 20.17% respectively in April-July 2019 over April-July 2018.
Exports in April-July 2019
In April-July 2019, overall automobile exports grew by 1.17% where passenger vehicles and two wheelers exports grew by 1.34% and 4.83% respectively. However, commercial vehicles and three wheelers registered a de-growth of 47.30%, and 12.80% respectively in April-July 2019 over the same period last year.
