Core CPI inflation eases to 5.9% in September 2014
All-India general CPI inflation declined to 6.5% in September 2014 from 7.7% in August 2014, driven by across-the-board decline in inflation. The corresponding provisional inflation rate for rural area were at 6.68% and urban area at 6.34% for September 2014. Inflation rates for rural had stood at 8.27% and urban areas 7.04% for August 2014.The CPI inflation decline in September 2014 was driven by fall in inflation for 'food, beverages & tobacco' group to 7.6% in September 2014 from 9.1% in August 2014. The inflation for fuel & light declined to 3.5%, while inflation for housing also declined to 8.1% in September 2014. Further, inflation for 'clothing, bedding and footwear' eased to 7.6% and miscellaneous items 4.7% in September 2014.
The core CPI inflation eased to 5.9% in September 2014 from 6.8% in August 2014. The core CPI inflation reading of 5.9% for September 2014 was the lowest reading for the CPI data with the Base 2010: 100.
