CPI inflation dips to 7.3% in June 2014

Inflation rates for rural and urban areas for June 2014 are 7.7% and 6.8%

All India general CPI inflation dipped to 7.3% in June 2014 from 8.3% in May 2014, mainly driven down by decline in inflation for food articles. The corresponding provisional inflation rates for rural and urban areas for June 2014 are 7.7% and 6.8%, respectively. Inflation rates for rural and urban areas for May 2014 are 8.9% and 7.6%, respectively.

CPI inflation decline in June 2014 was mainly driven by fall in inflation for 'food, beverages & tobacco' group to 7.9% in June 2014 from 9.2% in May 2014. The inflation for fuel & light dipped to 4.6%, while that for housing also eased to 9.1%. Further, the inflation for 'clothing, bedding and footwear' and miscellaneous items eased to 8.6% and 6.5% in June 2014.
