CPI inflation eases to 5.5% in October 2014

Core inflation remains flat at 5.9% in October 2014

All-India general CPI inflation declined to 5.5% in October 2014 from 6.5% in September 2014, driven by sharp decline in inflation for food articles. The corresponding provisional inflation rates for rural area were at 5.5% and urban area also at 5.5% for October 2014. Inflation rates for rural area had stood at 6.7% and urban areas at 6.3% for September 2014.

The CPI inflation decline in October 2014 was mainly driven by fall in inflation for 'food, beverages & tobacco' group to 5.8% in October 2014 from 7.6% in September 2014. Inflation for fuel and light eased to 3.3%, while inflation for housing also declined to 8% in September 2014. Further, inflation for 'clothing, bedding and footwear' eased to 7.4%. The inflation for miscellaneous items was flat at 4.7% in October 2014.

 

The core CPI inflation was flat at 5.9% in October 2014.
