Core CPI inflation declines to 3.99% in September 2019
The all-India general CPI inflation rose to 3.99% in September 2019 (new base 2012=100), compared with 3.28% in August 2019. The corresponding provisional inflation rate for rural area was 3.24% and urban area 4.78% in September 2019 as against 2.25% and 4.49% in August 2019.The core CPI inflation eased to 3.99% in September 2019 compared with 4.20% in August 2019.
The cumulative CPI inflation has declined to 3.27% in April-September FY2020 compared with 4.32% in April-September FY2019.
Among the CPI components, inflation of food and beverages jumped to 4.70% in September 2019 from 2.96% in August 2019. Within the food items, the inflation increased for vegetables to 15.40%, meat and fish 10.29%, fruits 0.83%, cereals and products 1.66% and pulses and products 8.40%. Further, the inflation also moved up for spices 3.30%, sugar and confectionery (-) 0.35%, milk and products 1.75%, oils and fats 1.15% and egg 3.33%. However, the inflation eased for prepared meals, snacks, sweets etc 1.95% in September 2019.
The inflation for housing eased marginally to 4.75%, while that for miscellaneous items also fell to 4.45% in September 2019. Within the miscellaneous items, the inflation for transport and communication declined to 0.08%, health 7.66%, household goods and services 3.51% and recreation and amusement 5.13%, while it increased for education to 6.16% and personal care and effects 6.72% in September 2019.
The inflation for clothing and footwear dipped to 0.96%, while the CPI inflation of fuel and light further declined to (-) 2.18% in September 2019.
