Core CPI inflation moves up to 4.52% in July 2016

The all-India general CPI inflation increased to 6.07% in July 2016 (new base 2012=100), compared with 5.77% in June 2016. The corresponding provisional inflation rate for rural area was 6.66% and urban area 5.39% in July 2016 as against 6.29% and 5.26% in June 2016.

The core CPI inflation moved up to 4.52% in July 2016 from 4.39% in June 2016. The cumulative CPI inflation rose to 5.77% in April-July 2016 compared with 4.73% in April-July 2015.

Among the CPI components, inflation of food and beverages inched up to 7.96% in July 2016 from 7.46% in June 2016 contributing to the increase in CPI inflation. Within the food items, the inflation galloped for cereals and products to 3.88%, milk and products 4.13%, sugar and confectionery 21.91% and oils and fats 4.96%. The inflation also moved up for pulses and products to 27.53%, fruits 3.53%, egg 9.34% and meat and fish 6.57% on the other hand, inflation declined for vegetables to 14.06% in July 2016.

 

The inflation for housing was flat at 5.42%, while that for miscellaneous items inched up to 4.01% in July 2016. Within the miscellaneous items, the inflation for personal care and effects rose to 7.30%, household goods and services 4.62%, and recreation and amusement 4.44%, while eased for transport and communication to 1.06%, education 5.14% and health 4.54% in July 2016.

The inflation for clothing and footwear rose to 5.23% in July 2016, while the CPI inflation of fuel and light declined to 2.75% in July 2016.
