Core CPI inflation eases to 4.20% in August 2019
The all-India general CPI inflation was nearly steady at 3.21% in August 2019 (new base 2012=100), compared with 3.15% in July 2019.The corresponding provisional inflation rate for rural area was 2.18% and urban area 4.49% in August 2019 as against 2.19% and 4.22% in July 2019.
The core CPI inflation eased to 4.20% in August 2019 compared with 4.25% in July 2019.
The cumulative CPI inflation has declined to 3.11% in April-August FY2020 compared with 4.44% in April-August FY2019.
Among the CPI components, inflation of food and beverages moved up to 2.96% in August 2019 from 2.33% in July 2019.
Within the food items, the inflation increased for vegetables to 6.90%, milk and products 1.40%, spices 2.37%, fruits (-) 0.73% and pulses and products 6.94%. However, the inflation eased for meat and fish 8.51%, prepared meals, snacks, sweets etc. 2.35%, oils and fats 0.65%, non-alcoholic beverages 2.90%, sugar and confectionery (-) 2.35% and egg 0.29% in August 2019.

The inflation for housing eased marginally to 4.84%, while that for miscellaneous items was steady at 4.71% in August 2019.
Within the miscellaneous items, the inflation for transport and communication declined to 1.21%, household goods and services 3.66%, education 6.10%, health 7.84% and recreation and amusement 5.54%, while it increased for personal care and effects to 6.38% in August 2019.
The inflation for clothing and footwear rose declined to 1.23%, while the CPI inflation of fuel and light dipped to (-) 1.70% in August 2019.
