FPIs continue buying

Net buying of Rs 960.40 crore on 17 March 2016

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought stocks worth a net Rs 960.40 crore yesterday, 17 March 2016, as per the latest data released by the depositories. FPIs had bought equities worth Rs 695.89 crore during the preceding trading session on 16 March 2016.

The net inflow of Rs 960.40 crore into the secondary equity markets on 17 March 2016 was a result of gross purchases of Rs 5028.35 crore and gross sales of Rs 4067.95 crore. On that day, the Sensex fell 5.11 points or 0.02% to settle at 24,677.37, its lowest closing level since 15 March 2016.

 

There was a net outflow of Rs 226.37 crore from FPIs from the category 'primary markets & others' on 17 March 2016, which was a result of gross purchases of Rs 1251.05 and gross sales of Rs 1477.42 crore.

FPIs have mopped up stocks worth a net Rs 10996.15 crore from the secondary equity markets in this month so far (till 17 March 2016). FPIs sold stocks worth a net Rs 6069.31 crore into the secondary equity markets last month. FPIs have offloaded shares worth a net Rs 5255.09 crore into the secondary equity markets in calendar year 2016 so far (till 17 March 2016). FPIs offloaded shares worth a net Rs 4361.67 crore into the secondary equity markets in calendar year 2015.

There has been a net inflow of Rs 170.22 crore from FPIs into the category 'primary markets & others' in this month so far (till 17 March 2016). There was an inflow of Rs 547.92 crore from FPIs into the category 'primary markets & others' last month.

The net outflow from FPIs from the category 'primary markets & others' has totaled Rs 226.37 crore in calendar year 2016 so far (till 17 March 2016). There was net inflow of Rs 22167.82 from FPIs into the category 'primary markets & others' in calendar year 2015.
