Net outflow of Rs 305.13 crore on 25 August 2016
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold socks into the secondary equity markets for the second day in a row. FPIs offloaded stocks worth a net Rs 305.13 crore into the secondary equity markets on 25 August 2016. That compared with their small sales of Rs 32.61 crore during the preceding trading session on 24 August 2016. The net outflow of Rs 305.13 crore on 25 August 2016 was a result of gross purchases of Rs 5650.78 crore and gross sales of Rs 5955.91 crore. On that day, the Sensex fell 224.03 points or 0.8% to settle at 27,835.91, its lowest closing level since 4 August 2016.
There was net inflow of Rs 0.04 crore from FPIs into the category 'primary market & others' sessions on 25 August 2016, which was a result of gross purchases of Rs 0.11 crore and gross sales of Rs 0.07 crore.
FPIs have bought stocks worth a net Rs 7899.96 crore from the secondary equity markets in this month so far (till 25 August 2016). FPIs bought shares worth a net Rs 12068.52 crore from the secondary equity markets last month. FPIs have purchased shares worth a net Rs 38204.46 crore from the secondary equity markets in calendar year 2016 so far (till 25 August 2016). FPIs sold shares worth a net Rs 4362.50 crore into the secondary equity markets in calendar year 2015.
There has been a net outflow of Rs 78.37 crore from FPIs from the category 'primary markets & others' in this month so far (till 25 August 2016). There was a net inflow of Rs 543.30 crore from FPIs into the category 'primary markets & others' last month. The net inflow from FPIs into category 'primary markets & others' has totaled Rs 1395.54 crore in calendar year 2016 so far (till 25 August 2016). There was net inflow of Rs 22168.40 crore from FPIs into the category 'primary markets & others' in calendar year 2015.
