The Hong Kong stock market finished session higher for seven days in a row on volatile trade on Wednesday, 24 January 2018, marking another record high, as strength in energy shares offset weakness in IT and finance plays. At close of trade, the Hang Seng index was up 27.99 points or 0.08% at 32,958.69. The Hang Seng China Enterprises index rose 0.97% to 13,620.93. The sub-index of the Hang Seng tracking energy shares rose 3.7%, while the IT sector dipped 0.97%, the financial sector was 0.14% lower and property sector dipped 0.58%. Turnover decreased to HK$187.8 billion from HK$198 billion on Tuesday.
