Huhtamaki PPL announced that the company has on 20 November 2018 received Closure Directions from Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) for its manufacturing activities, within 72 hours and take all precautionary measures for safe closure, in relation to its Thane Plant, under Section 33(A) of Water (Prevention & Control Pollution) Act, 1974, and under Section 31 of the Air (Prevention & Control Pollution) Act, 1981, Hazardous & Other Waste (Management & Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016, alleging violation of Maharashtra Plastic and Thermocol Products (Manufacture, Usage, Sale, Transport, Handling and Storage) Notification dated 23rd March, 2018 and Maharashtra Non-Biodegradable Garbage (Control) Act, 2006.The Company has filed a Writ Petition in the Bombay High Court on 21 November 2018, challenging and setting aside the Closure Direction.
