Turnover spurts in F&O segment on account of weekly options expiry.
The Nifty April 2020 futures were at 8,260, a premium of 6.2 points compared with the spot closing at 8,253.80.Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's futures & options (F&O) segment was Rs 12.40 lakh crore compared with Rs 6.73 lakh crore reported in the previous session.
In the cash market, the Nifty 50 index tumbled 343.95 points or 4% at 8,253.80.
The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of market's expectation of volatility over the near term, slumped 6.03% to 60.52.
On the options front, the Nifty option chain for 30 April 2020 expiry showed maximum call open interest (OI) of 15.21 lakh at the 9,000 strike price. Maximum put OI of 19.70 lakh contracts was seen at 7,500 strike price.
Reliance Industries, Bajaj Finance and HDFC Bank and were the top traded individual stock futures contracts in F&O segment of NSE.

Reliance Industries April 2020 futures were at 1085, compared with spot closing price of 1084. Bajaj Finance April 2020 futures were at 2,228 compared with spot closing price of 2226. HDFC Bank April 2020 futures were at 827.25, compared with spot closing price of 829.55.
The F&O contracts for April expire on 30 April 2020.
