Key indices were trading higher on selective buying in index stocks. At 9:19 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 45.77 points or 0.11% at 41,200.89. The Nifty 50 index was up 17.50 points or 0.14% at 12,165.10.
The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index was up 0.30%. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 0.43%. Both these indices outperformed the BSE Sensex.
The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was positive. On the BSE, 629 shares rose and 209 shares fell. A total of 30 shares were unchanged.
Q3 earnings impact:
Among stocks, Housing Development Finance Corporation rose 1.38%. Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) reported 296.09% rise in net profit to Rs 8,372.49 crore on 91.75% spurt in total income to Rs 20,291.45 crore in Q3 December 2019 over Q3 December 2018. GRUH Finance (GRUH), an associate of HDFC, merged into and with Bandhan Bank with effect from 17 October 2019. HDFC was allotted 9.90% equity of Bandhan Bank. On de-recognition of investment in GRUH, HDFC has recognised a fair value gain of Rs 9,019.81 crore. HDFC's board approved issuance of secured redeemable non-convertible debentures under a shelf disclosure document (Series - X), aggregating Rs 45,000 crore, on a private placement basis.
InterGlobe Aviation rose 0.60%. InterGlobe Aviation's consolidated net profit surged 167.86% to Rs 495.97 crore on a 25.45% jump in net sales to Rs 9,931.68 crore in Q3 December 2019 over Q3 December 2018. ASK (available seat kilometers) jumped 19.3% to Rs 2,580 crore in Q3 December 2019 as compared to Rs 2,160 crore in Q3 December 2018. The RPK (revenue passenger miles) soared 22.6% to Rs 2,260 crore in Q3 December 2019 as against Rs 1,840 crore in Q3 December 2018. Passenger ticket revenues jumped 24.1% to Rs 8,770.30 crore and ancillary revenues soared 28.8% to Rs 1,037.30 crore in Q3 December 2019 as against Q3 December 2018.
United Spirits gained 4.20%. United Spirits reported 15.29% rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 235.30 crore on 1.27% rise in total income to Rs 2,593.40 crore in Q3 December 2019 over Q3 December 2018. During the quarter, the company continued to experience substantial inflation in key raw material costs.

Overseas, most Asian stocks were trading lower on Tuesday as China took more drastic steps to combat the coronavirus, while bonds found favour on expectations central banks would need to keep stimulus flowing to offset the likely economic drag.
In US, stock benchmarks on Monday closed sharply lower, with all three indexes posting their worst daily losses in months, amid growing worries about the economic implications of a rising death tolls and growing infections from a fast-moving virus in China.
