The Fifth Meeting of the Inter Ministerial Committee on Prices and Availability of essential food items was held on 05 October at Delhi. The Committee observed that wholesale prices of onions have moderated showing a decline over the fortnight in major Mandis. The first tranche of 250 tonnes of imported onion has already arrived at JNPT, Mumbai and by the end of the week the entire quantity of 2000 tonnes of onion would arrive.

As regards pulses, 3223 tonnes has already arrived at both Mumbai and Chennai, and the entire quantity of 5000 tonnes would arrive by 20 October 2015.

These consignments are being allocated to States as per their request. This should help cool down the prices. It was also decided to import 2000 tonnes of Tur dal to improve availability of pulses and moderate prices.
