IT stocks in demand

Nine IT stocks rose by 0.47% to 7.23% at 10:46 IST on BSE after the rupee fell to a fresh near 6-month low in opening trade today, 22 May 2013.

Tech Mahindra (up 7.23%), Mahindra Satyam (up 4.86%), HCL Technologies (up 1.67%), MphasiS (up 1.25%), Infosys (up 0.72%), Hexaware Technologies (up 0.65%), Wipro (up 0.53%), CMC (up 0.51%) and TCS (up 0.47%), edged higher.

The S&P BSE Sensex was up 61.15 points, or 0.30% at 20,172.76.

The S&P BSE IT index was up 1.01% at 6,091.49. It outperformed the Sensex, which was up 0.31% at 20,172.98.

The rupee was trading at 55.43/44 against the dollar versus Tuesday's close of 55.41/42. A weak rupee boosts revenue of IT firms in rupee terms as the sector derives a lion's share of revenue from exports.
