At closing bell, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average advanced 335.21 points, or 1.23%, to 27,553.06, its highest close since April 5. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 12.85 points, or 0.67%, to 1,928.
Shares of Chip-making equipment maker Tokyo Electron rose 3.42% after its global peer ASML Holding NV beat earnings forecasts. Air-conditioner maker Daikin Industries climbed 2.74% and game and camera maker Sony Group gained 0.96%. Canon fell 2.3% even after a report said the office equipment and camera maker lifted its annual net profit forecast.
CURRENCY NEWS: The dollar turned down to move around 128 yen in Tokyo trading on Thursday. At 5 p.m., the dollar stood at 128.01-02 yen, down from 128.65-66 yen at the same time Wednesday.
