Karnataka Bank drops to 52-week low as bad loans rise

Karnataka Bank lost 7.27% to Rs 80.30 at 15:10 IST on BSE as the bank's ratio of gross non-performing assets to gross advances increased to 3.22% as on 30 June 2013 from 2.51% as on 31 March 2013.

The result was announced during market hours today, 31 July 2013.

Meanwhile, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 20.83 points or 0.11% at 19,369.17.

On BSE, 30.11 lakh shares of Karnataka Bank changed hands in the counter as against average daily volume of 8.68 lakh shares over the past one quarter.

The stock hit a 52-week low of Rs 74.85 in intraday trade today, 31 July 2013. The stock hit a high of Rs 85.95 so far during the day. The stock had hit a 52-week high of Rs 198.80 on 11 December 2012.

 

The stock had underperformed the market over the past one month till 30 July 2013, falling 22.71% compared with the Sensex's 0.24% fall. The scrip also underperformed the market in past one quarter, sliding 42.09% as against Sensex's 0.80% fall.

The private sector bank has equity capital of Rs 188.36 crore. Face value per share is Rs 10.

Karnataka Bank's ratio of gross non-performing assets (NPA) to gross advances increased to 3.22% as on 30 June 2013 from 2.51% as on 31 March 2013 but declined from 3.31% as on 30 June 2012. The ratio of net NPA to net advances increased to 1.96% as on 30 June 2013, from 1.51% as on 31 March 2013 but declined from 1.99% as on 30 June 2012.

Karnataka Bank's net profit rose 12.87% to Rs 94.17 crore on 21.76% growth in total income to Rs 1203.80 crore in Q1 June 2013 over Q1 June 2012.

The bank's provisions and contingencies rose 27.74% to Rs 72.89 crore in Q1 June 2013 over Q1 June 2012.

Karnataka Bank's capital adequacy ratio (CAR) as per Basel II norms stood at 14.08% as on 30 June 2013, as against 13.22% as on 31 March 2013 and 12.50% as on 30 June 2012. CAR as per Basel III norms stood at 13.86% as on 30 June 2013.

Karnataka Bank's four business segments include treasury operations; corporate and wholesale banking; retail banking and other banking operations.
