Kharif crop sowing rises to 445.11 lakh hectares

Oilseeds crop sowing jumps to 101.26 lakh hectares

The total kharif crop sown area as on 10 July 2015, as per reports received from states, stood at 445.11 lakh hectare as compared to 275.1 lakh hectare at same time last year. The crops sown area shows a strong increase of 61.8% over the same time of last year.

It is reported that rice has been sown/transplanted in 89.59 lakh hectares, indicating a decline from 94.73 lakh hectares covered same time a year ago. Meanwhile, the pulses crop area has jumped to 32.61 lakh hectares from 22.71 lakh hectares same time a year ago.

 

The coarse cereals crop area have also zoomed to 81.8 lakh hectares from 38.36 lakh hectares covered same time a year ago.

Oilseeds crop sowing has shot up to 101.26 lakh hectares compared with the coverage of 22.24 lakh hectares a year ago.

The cotton crop sowing area has also jumped to 87.86 lakh hectares from 45.1 lakh hectares a year ago. Meanwhile, the area under sugarcane at 44.29 lakh hectares was higher compared with 43.92 lakh hectares a year ago. However, the area under jute & mesta at 7.74 lakh hectares was lower compared with 8.05 lakh hectares a year ago.
