Losses for BSE small-cap, mid-cap indices exceed Sensex's slide

The movement for key benchmark indices remained confined to a narrow range in afternoon trade. At 13:17 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was off 122.13 points or 0.48% at 25,188.20. The 50-unit Nifty 50 index was currently down 40.95 points or 0.53% at 7,660.75. Weakness in global stocks weighed on sentiment on the domestic bourses. The broad market depicted weakness. There were more than three losers against every gainer on BSE. 2,001 shares fell and 534 shares rose. A total of 142 shares were unchanged. The BSE Mid-Cap index was currently off 1.09%. The BSE Small-Cap index was currently down 1.65%. The decline in both these indices was higher than Sensex's decline in percentage terms.

 

In overseas stock markets, Asian share markets extended losses registered in previous trading session. In China, the latest data showed that China's consumer price inflation rose 1.5% on year in November 2015. On a monthly basis, inflation was flat last month following the 0.3% decline in October. US stocks closed lower yesterday, 8 December 2015, but off session lows as oil prices stabilized and biotech stocks gained.

Vedanta (down 3.1%), Bharti Airtel (down 2.31%) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (down 2%) were among the major losers from the Sensex pack.

Auto stocks declined. Ashok Leyland (down 2.06%), Maruti Suzuki India (down 0.95%), Tata Motors (down 1.28%), Eicher Motors (down 0.21%), Hero MotoCorp (down 1.92%), Bajaj Auto (down 0.55%) and TVS Motor Company (down 0.89%) declined. Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) rose 0.41%.

Realty stocks also nudged lower. Housing Development & Infrastructure (HDIL) (down 1%), Godrej Properties (down 1.57%), Sobha (down 3.79%), Indiabulls Real Estate (down 0.36%), Unitech (down 0.61%), DLF (down 0.5%), and Oberoi Realty (down 0.37%) edged lower.

IndusInd Bank dropped 1.25%. The bank said during market hours that it has inaugurated a new branch in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The bank now has 3 branches in Indore and 51 branches in Madhya Pradesh after the inauguration of new branch.
