Key benchmark indices extended fall and hit fresh intraday low in mid-afternoon trade. At 14:22 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 81.93 points or 0.32% at 25,786.56. The Nifty 50 index was down 22.15 points or 0.28% at 7,834.40.
The market breadth indicating the overall health of the market was positive. On BSE, 1,381 shares rose and 1,138 shares fell. A total of 186 shares were unchanged. The BSE Mid-Cap index was up 0.25%. The BSE Small-Cap index was up 0.46%. Both these indices outperformed the Sensex.
In overseas markets, European stocks declined after the release of mixed economic reports from Germany and France. Asian markets fell as commodity producers tracked a slide in industrial metals and crude oil. Japanese markets were closed for the Labor Thanksgiving Day holiday. US markets ended with gains on Friday, 20 November 2015 led by a rally in healthcare, consumer and technology stocks.
Index heavyweight and housing finance major HDFC fell 1.27% to Rs 1,188.60. The stock hit high of Rs 1,219 and low of Rs 1,187.25 so far during the day.
Hindalco Industries (down 4.01%), Vedanta (down 3.22%) and ITC (down 2.15%) edged lower from the Sensex pack.
