Market may see flat opening

Trading of Nifty 50 index futures on the Singapore stock exchange indicates that the Nifty could rise 5 points at the opening bell.

Overseas, most Asian shares declined as geopolitical concerns continued to loom over the markets. US President Donald Trump threatened to terminate the US trade agreement with South Korea, declaring that the five-year-old accord with a key ally was "a horrible deal that has left America destroyed. Trump also warned that conflict with North Korea was possible, even though he said he preferred peaceful resolution more.

In Europe, the European Central Bank (ECB) left its monetary policy unchanged even as ECB President Mario Draghi acknowledged the economic recovery taking place in the Euro zone.

 

US stocks closed higher Thursday, 27 April 2017, ahead of major tech company earnings. The Dow Jones industrial average and the S&P 500 struggled to hold opening gains, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite closed at a record high. The Dow Jones industrial average closed 6.24 points higher, or 0.03% to 20,981.3. The S&P 500 rose 1.32 point, or 0.06%, to 2,388.77. The Nasdaq composite rose 23.71 points, or 0.39%, to 6,048.94.

Closer home, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 181.71 crore yesterday, 27 April 2017, as per provisional data released by the stock exchanges. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 233.31 crore yesterday, 27 April 2017, as per provisional data.

Among corporate news, Sun TV Network, one of the largest Television Broadcasters in India, operates Satellite Television Channels across four languages of Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, airs FM radio stations across India and owns the SunRisers Hyderabad Cricket Franchise of the Indian Premier League has launched new 'Surya Comedy Channel which is the first 24 hours Malayalam comedy channel to its bouquet of Malayalam channels namely Surya TV, Surya Movies, Surya Music and Kochu TV. The new channel will be on air from 29 April 2017. The announcement was made after market hours yesterday, 27 April 2017.

Reliance Capital's consolidated net profit rose 0.48% to Rs 417 crore on 79.84% rise in total revenue to Rs 5086 crore in Q4 March 2017 over Q4 March 2016. The result was announced after market hours yesterday, 27 April 2017.

Indiabulls Real Estate's consolidated net profit fell 3.73% to Rs 60.18 crore on 25.84% fall in total income to Rs 545.15 crore in Q4 March 2017 over Q4 March 2016. The result was announced after market hours yesterday, 27 April 2017.

Profit booking after three-day gains pushed the key benchmark indices modestly lower yesterday, 27 April 2017, after scaling record highs in intraday trade. The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, fell 103.61 points or 0.34% to settle at 30,029.74. The Nifty 50 index fell 9.70 points or 0.10% to settle at 9,342.15. The Sensex ended a tad above the psychologically important 30,000 mark after briefly sliding below that level in late trade.
