Market moves in a narrow range

Key benchmark indices were hovering in a tiny range a tad above the flat line in early afternoon trade. At 12:21 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 3.84 points or 0.01% at 25,872.33. The Nifty 50 index was up 1.30 points or 0.02% at 7,857.85.

The market breadth indicating the overall health of the market was strong. On BSE, 1,427 shares rose and 917 shares fell. A total of 167 shares were unchanged. The BSE Mid-Cap index was up 0.42%. The BSE Small-Cap index was up 0.68%. Both these indices outperformed the Sensex.

In overseas markets, Asian markets were trading higher led by broad gains on Wall Street on Friday, 20 November 2015. Japanese markets were closed on account of a holiday. US markets ended with gains on Friday, 20 November 2015 led by a rally in healthcare, consumer and technology stocks.

 

Index heavyweight and cigarette major ITC dropped 2.15% to Rs 337. The stock hit a high of Rs 344.85 and low of Rs 336.85 so far during the day.

FMCG were mixed. Dabur India (up 1.15%), Godrej Consumer Products (up 1.4%), Marico (up 1.81%), Britannia Industries (up 0.63%), GlaxoSmithkline Consumer Healthcare (up 0.59%), Jyothy Laboratories (up 0.23%), Bajaj Corp (up 0.19%) rose.

Tata Global Beverages (down 1.05%), Nestle India (down 0.34%), Hindustan Unilever (down 0.38%), Colgate-Palmolive (India) (down 0.03%) and Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Health Care (down 0.37%) fell.

Telecom stocks rose. Idea Cellular (up 1.95%), MTNL (up 2.53%) and Bharti Airtel (up 0.57%) gained. Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (down 0.29%) and Reliance Communications (down 0.76%) fell.

SeQuent Scientific jumped 6.23% after the company announced that its subsidiary Alivira Animal Health (Alivira) will acquire Turkish firm Topkim. The acquistion will be made through Provet Veterinary Products, Turkey, a subsidiary of Alivira. The transaction has been valued at an enterprise valuation of Turkish Lira (TL) 20.7 million (about $7 million). The announcement was made before market hours today, 23 November 2015.

Suzlon Energy rose 0.75% after the company announced that it has won its maiden order from Hero Future Energies, an Independent Power Producer company. The company made the announcement during market hours today, 23 November 2015.
