Market opens higher on positive global cues

Key benchmark indices were trading higher in early trade, tracking positive leads from Asian markets and overnight gains on the Wall Street. At 9:20 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 129.75 points or 0.37% at 35,376.02. The Nifty 50 index was up 40.40 points or 0.38% at 10,756.95.

Among secondary barometers,the BSE Mid-Cap index was up 0.20%. The BSE Small-Cap index was up 0.22%. Both these indices underperformed the Sensex.

The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was positive. On BSE, 546 shares rose and 379 shares fell. A total of 41 shares were unchanged.

 

Overseas, Asian shares were trading higher, tracking gains seen on Wall Street overnight. US stocks jumped on Thursday, with equities advancing in a broad rally that gave the Dow Jones Industrial Average its longest winning streak since February. Gains were supported by the latest economic data, which suggested the economy was healthy, but not growing so quickly that it was at risk of overheating.

In US, the consumer-price index rose 0.2% in April, while core CPI, which strips out food and energy, rose 0.1%. In another report on Thursday, the number of people who applied for first-time US unemployment benefits in early May stood at 211,000 for the second straight week, near a 49-year low.

Back home, PC Jeweller rose 16.60%. The company's board has approved the proposal for buy back of of upto 1.21 crore equity shares, comprising of 3.07% of the total paid-up equity capital of the company, at Rs 350 per share, on a proportionate basis through the tender offer route. Asian Paints rose 2.33%. The company's consolidated net profit rose 3.4% to Rs 495.91 crore on 13.41% rise in total income to Rs 4527.83 crore in Q4 March 2018 over Q4 March 2017. The announcement was made after market hours yesterday, 10 May 2018.

Zee Entertainment Enterprises rose 0.41%. The company's consolidated net profit dropped 84.76% to Rs 230.64 crore on 35.6% fall in total income to Rs 1814.01 crore in Q4 March 2018 over Q4 March 2017. The announcement was made after market hours yesterday, 10 May 2018.

Titan Company rose 1.43%. The company's net profit rose 40.56% to Rs 282.12 crore on 11.37% rise in total income to Rs 3936.77 crore in Q4 March 2018 over Q4 March 2017. The announcement was made after market hours yesterday, 10 May 2018.

Nestle India rose 2.76%. The company's net profit rose 38.23% to Rs 424.03 crore on 11.06% rise in total income to Rs 2813.67 crore in Q1 March 2018 over Q1 March 2017. The announcement was made after market hours yesterday, 10 May 2018.

Pennar Industries rose 2.87%. The company has announced receipt of orders worth Rs 347 crore across its business units. The announcement was made after market hours yesterday, 10 May 2018.

Shree Pushkar Chemicals & Fertilisers rose 1.14%. The company's board of directors has approved to allot 5,04,875 equity shares at Rs 211.57 each on preferential basis to promoter group aggregating to Rs 10.68 crore. The announcement was made after market hours yesterday, 10 May 2018.
