US stocks ended lower on Tuesday after British lawmakers rejected the government's proposed timetable for passing legislation to ratify its deal to exit the European Union.
Back home,the market tumbled on Tuesday as traders booked profits after six-day rising streak. A sharp fall in IT major Infosys put pressure on bourses. Selling in Bajaj Finance and Bharti Airtel also weighed on key indices. The barometer index, the BSE Sensex, fell 334.54 points or 0.85% to 38,963.84. The Nifty 50 index fell 71.95 points or 0.62% to 11,589.90.
The trading activity on that day showed that the foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 557.50 crore yesterday, 22 October 2019, as per provisional data released by the stock exchanges. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 985.47 crore yesterday, 22 October 2019, as per provisional data.
